Glass railing systems are railing systems whose handrail profile consists of aluminum, steel, chrome or iron material and the middle section is glass. These systems are widely used on balconies, window fronts, stairs, terraces and roofs, pool sides. With their aesthetic appearance, glass railing applications, especially in villas, have been increasing in recent years.
Aluminum handrails are cheaper than steel and chrome, but at the same time, despite their low weight, they are robust, stainless and long-lasting, so they are widely preferred in glass railing systems. Aluminum railing weights, if we exclude glass, will not exceed 1.5 kg per meter with its profiles only. In addition, since it can be easily shaped, it offers a wide range of options in terms of architectural aesthetics. For this reason, we strongly recommend the use of aluminum profile handrails in glass railing systems.
Glass railing systems are 100% reliable if installed with the right workmanship and are very easy to clean. A soft-tipped brush, soft cloth or sponge and vinegar or simple cleaning agents can be used to wipe the glass and handrails. Laminated glass should be used in these railing systems to guarantee durability.
Glass railing systems have a wide variety of models. Although we can make basic classifications such as square and rectangular handrail applications, vertically aligned strut profiles, horizontally aligned strut profiles, applications without handrails consisting only of glass, oval handrail applications, countless different designs can be applied within each class. In addition, there are wide color options for profiles and glasses in the railing system. In common use, metallic gray (anodized) and anthracite colors are widely preferred for handrails and transparent or smoked colors for glass.
We can divide the materials of glass railing systems into three basic classes. (1) Basic metal materials such as U frame profile and handrail profile for fixing the railing (sub-base) if it is a fixed system, (2) the glass that will form the middle section and additional strut profiles, if any, and (3) fasteners and accessories such as anchor iron, spider connection, screws and adhesive. Additional parts are also available depending on the application. For example, if it is completely fixed to the ground with feet instead of the frame profile, there are extra apparatus such as railing feet, and if it is a glazed system that is not fixed to the ground, there are extra apparatus such as side fittings.
